Edible Fruit Bouquet for Today's Party

Yesterday I posted a picture of the edible fruit bouquet that I made for my
friend's Memorial Day BBQ
. This afternoon, we're combining two birthday parties into one big party. So, I made a larger version of the fruit salad bouquet to commemorate their special days!

Here's how today's fruit salad bouquet turned out. I again used a watermelon base which I stuck down inside a cute metal toy bucket which I found at Target.

I improved on my time. Fruit preparation took only about 30 minutes. Assembly still took about an hour. I barely had room in my refrigerator to 'house' it until the party. Will have to remember that next time!

I'm going to try to put sparklers in the display and light them just prior to serving. Wish me luck. :)

Art of a Different Matter

I have seen these edible fruit bouquets done before and I think they are such fun! My daughter requested that I do one for her school class as her 'birthday cake'.

Before attempting her fruit bouquet, I thought I would make one for a lovely friend's Memorial Day BBQ. Here's a picture of the one that I made. The kids at the party loved it! It was amazing how quickly two hours of work was devoured! But, it was such fun to see the kids enjoying the whimsical fruit.

Fruit salad in general takes a long time to prepare, but this salad was an even greater labor of love. The preparation took about an hour. Then, the assembly and presentation took an additional hour. I used a watermelon as the base and stuck it down inside a cute plastic watering can. I tried to conceal the skewers with leafy greens to give a more garden-like look. Seeing the bouquet in the picture, I notice a lot more of the skewers. So, next time, I may allow the fruit to extend a little further down the skewer to try to hide some of the taller wooden sticks. But, as a first go at it, I think I did an O.K. job.

Going to try to do another version of this for a party tomorrow. Wish me luck! :) Hopefully, I can improve upon my 2-hr. time. :)

Artwork to appear in new film "The Roommate" (release date 2010)

Several of my small prints have been purchased for use in a new film "The Roommate" starring Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly, and Cam Gigandet. The film is being directed by Christian E. Christiansen and is due in theaters in 2010. You can learn more about the film on the public IMDb site for the film. This is the first time that my artwork has been used in a film, so I am very excited! Should be fun to watch the film and try to spot the images. :) At this point, the most I know is that the prints are supposed to be used on the bulletin boards in the dorm rooms.

Whimsical Enchanted Garden with 4 birds.

Bright, whimsical enchanted garden with 4 birds, mushrooms, plants, flowers, trees and more. Great little framed tile to add the right amount of color to a small space!

These are great little works of art that can be displayed on a wall (with the drilled nail holes) or on a tabletop with the included dowel rod. They are heat sealed with polyester resin to the ceramic tile and are suitable to use as a coaster, trivet/hotpad.

Blue Tree Cluster Fine Art Ceramic Tile - Framed

Added a framed ceramic tile using a print from my "Blue Tree Cluster" painting. These framed tiles are great because they have a hole on the back that allows you to either display the work on the wall as wall art, or on a tabletop with the dowel rod easel that is included. Great versatile piece that is perfect for a small space needing a little color. The overall size is 6x6 inch and the tile itself measures the standard 4.25 inch square.

Pixel Art Straight from the Brush Framed Ceramic Tile

Pixel Art Straight from the Brush.

This design was originally created for a pixel-themed challenge where the entire design had to be made out of 1/4 inch squares and limited to 6 spot colors. The bold graphic design shows 4 paint brushes, their streaks of color, and their overlapping shades. A fun design for the painter in you....or someone you know.

Item shown is a 4.25 ceramic tile in cherrywood stained wood frame. Please email me if you are intersted in acquiring this design as a canvas or giclee print.

Added 3 New "Fashion Capitols of the World' Tiles (on white, red, and sage)

I just added three new framed ceramic tiles featuring my "Fashion Capitols of the World Design". This is a design I created last year in a 'text as art' themed challenge.

I was inspired by the TV show "Project Runway". And I thought it might be fun to create the dress forms entirely out of text identifying various fashion capitols of the world.

The left dress form reads "Paris" and "Madrid" and its wrought iron base reads "London". The center dress form reads "New York" and its base reads "Milan". The right-most dress form reads "Los Angeles" and its base reads "Tokyo".

A fun, bright design to show off the fashionista inside each of us!

This particular design is available on 3 different background colors: white, red or sage.

Exciting News!

Got a mention in A.D. Amorosi's "Icepack" section in Philadelphia's Citypaper! Thanks A.D.! The section has a bunch of art news and happenings in the Philadelphia area. I really appreciate the mention. The start of the section isn't exactly G-rated, but the rest of it is! Very exciting!

New for May!

On Sunday, May 3rd, I'll drop items off at the Curiosity Shoppe on 4th Street near South Street in Philadelphia. My items will be part of the late-spring/early-summer art rotation. A gallery opening reception for the new artist works will be on May 22nd at 9 pm. Live music and refreshments will be on hand. Hope you can join in on the fun!

Received a call from the Media Arts Council to display my artwork at Picasso Restaurant in Media, PA for the month of May. Big public thank you to Milkboy Coffee, Ardmore for including my artwork in their newsletter. This is how the Media Arts Council found my work. So, thanks Tommy and Jamie. I appreciate it!
