Alice's Secret Garden

"Alice's Secret Garden" was painted in honor of a special friend of the family who recently passed away. I uploaded the image to the "Art for Cancer' group at ImageKind. A portion of the sales of this image will be donated to the American Cancer Society on behalf of both Alice and my mother. Alice will be greatly missed, but we, as a family, feel so fortunate to have met her. She was an incredible woman with a heart of gold.

Handmade Childrens Baby Book -- An Illustrated Lullaby

I'm excited to offer a few handmade versions of my book "Oh Sweet Child of Mine". This book is available as a soft-cover book, but I created a few handmade versions to be sold on etsy.

"Oh Sweet Child of Mine" is an illustrated lullaby. I wrote this for my daughter and sang it to her many times when she was young. Now she sings it to herself. Included in the book are my illustrations, drawings (featuring my daughter) and graphic designs. The book page sizes are 4 inches wide by 6 inches tall and there are 24 pages in the book. The overall book is about 5 inches by 7 inches.

This book is likely best handled by the adult when read to the child. Given that it is handmade, it is somewhat delicate and should be kept more as a keepsake then a daily read. Each page of the book is protected by a plastic sleeve. The book is bound in a very soft blanket-like fleece. Ribbons are on the side-edge to allow the book to be tie-closed.

This will make a sensational gift for a new mom, mom-to-be, or just a very special birthday gift to a young child. A perfect addition to a nursery library.

I currently have each of the books pictured above. Additional pieces can be customized upon request. I'll hand sign each book and dedicate the book to a particular child if requested. Very few of these handmade versions of the book will be created.

Please convo me if you have a special request or any additional questions about this listing. -kristen

Peacock Feathers Abound

Isn't this peacock fantastic!? This mature male belongs to one of my customers. Surprisingly she became one of my customers quite by accident. She was online looking up another artist with the last name Stein. She happened across my work and purchased my peacock framed ceramic tile. While talking with her, I learned that she has a peacock as a pet and she sent me the incredible photo above.

She mentioned that her peacock sheds twice a year and that leaves her with a large number of feathers. She wanted to know if any of my artist friends or customers used peacock feathers in their art, floral arrangements, craft project, costumes, etc. If so, she sells them 20 for $10.00. Feel free to leave a note below if you are interested in these gorgeous feathers. I'll be sure to provide her contact information to you. I'm going to buy some and try to make a Halloween costume for my daughter. Yes....I know she should probably be dressed as the peahen...but who can deny the beauty of the peacock? Plus, I think I can make a really cute costume with fun makeup! :)

Two new festive Crochet and Wire Knit Glass beaded necklaces.

Had fun with wire today and crocheted and wire knit two new necklaces. These are so colorful and fun and really do remind me of some of my paintings, but in wearable form. I called one of them -garden inspired- due to the bright fun colors that look like a garden in bloom. The other had an emphasis on brighter beads and reminded me of a party or FIESTA.

Thank you so much for viewing today's newest creation.

Screenprinted Freud Graphic Tee

I originally created this design for a tshirt contest with a "Dream" theme. The design features Freud's face made out of abstract shapes that are generally considered 'freudian' in nature. Shapes such as fruits, melons, cigars, cigarettes, knives, guns, baseball bats, and more. Freud's face then rests atop a whimsical collection of clouds.

I screenprinted this design onto 2 tshirts. I have 2 medium tshirts currently available. You can visit my etsy shop to see the shirts available.

This would make a fun gift for the psychology student headed back to school this Fall!

If you are interested in this image for the wall, I also have it available as a print, poster or giclee. Or contact me for an 8x10 print on canvas.

New art tiles added today :: Great art for a small space

I added back a few new framed tiles created from prints of my original paintings. All are from my series of minimalist atmospheric landscapes. Additional tiles can be seen here. These are great pieces of art for relatively small spaces. They are versatile in that they can be displayed on a wall with the pre-drilled nail hole, or they can be displayed on a table top with the easel-like dowel rod that is included. If you want to fill a larger space, you can create a cluster of art tiles with a similar theme or color and display them side by side.

Larger traditional prints and giclees of these and other images, can be found in my Imagekind portfolio.

*New* Wire-wrapped Sea Glass :: Crocheted and Wire Knit Necklace :: Bring the Beach with You!

I recently returned from a month long stay on Kelleys Island. It's always fun to visit friends and family on this small island in Lake Erie. Although I have a studio set up at the house where I can paint, I also wanted to do something creative with the gorgeous sea glass pieces that my grandmother had collected over the past 40 years.

She had the most amazing collection of sea glass and shells which she collected nearly everyday along the Erie shore. So, I set my sight on wire-wrapping some of the pieces and 'netting' them into a necklace with the use of knitting needles and crochet hooks. The finished necklace gives the illusion of the glass floating in a wire net. I wanted to try to keep the glass as close to the form in which it was found. I didn't want to drill holes into the glass, but instead tried to keep them in the natural form in which they were found on the sand. Truly a one-of-kind necklace as each of the pieces of glass are genuine found sea glass (not commercially tumbled) and the wire-wrapping is unique to each piece.

This particular piece is longer (20.5 inches with about a 6.5 inch diameter when clasped.) I have another piece that is a bit more snug and fits closer to the neck like a choker.

Dropped off artwork at Square Peg Artery in Philadelphia.

Dropped off several pieces of artwork to the Square Peg Artery near Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia today. It's a darling shop in a great location at 108 S. 20th Street (near Walnut). Lots of other shopping nearby. Parking is available along the street or in a lot directly across from the boutique.

Today I dropped off a variety of artwork including my framed ceramic tiles, handcrafted pendants and my new line of crochet wire glass bead and sea glass necklaces.

Rachel offers a wide-range of fine arts, handmade crafts and upcycled/salvaged items. A really fun store with lots to see. You should definitely stop by and check it out if you are in the Philadelphia Center City area.

Two new atmospheric minimalist landscapes added today. Wicked Storm and Golden Glow Horizon

Wow! Today in Philadelphia we had the most intense weather that I've seen in a long time. The skies were very dark and ominous. Lots of thunder and lightning and a tremendous amount of rain in a short amount of time. My husband called to me to see the waterfall that used to be the stairs leading to our backyard. Some of this water ended up in our basement, the rest made it down the driveway headed to the neighbor's home. WOW! It was certainly a 'wicked storm' .... hence the name of today's painting.

This atmospheric abstract painting was done on 24x30 deep gallery-wrapped canvas (edges are 1.8 inches deep.) The painting will be varnished prior to shipping. Lots of emotion and movement in this abstract landscape.

Another piece listed today is "Golden Horizon Glow" - a soft, moody, atmospheric landscape. A gentle glow atop a horizon of dark greyish black and minty green hues. A classic look that would fit virtually any decor.

New Series of Crocheted Wire Knit Glass Bead Necklaces

I recently returned from a month long stay on Kelleys Island. It's always fun to visit friends and family on this small island in Lake Erie. Although I have a studio set up at the house where I can paint, I also wanted to do something creative with the gorgeous sea glass pieces that my grandmother had collected over the past 40 years.

Truly a one-of-kind necklace as each of the pieces of glass are genuine found sea glass (not commercially tumbled) and the wire-wrapping is unique to each piece.

In addition to the sea glass 'pebbles' that I incorporated into the necklace, I also worked with a variety of whimsical glass beads. I loved the ecletic blend of colors and shapes. In the end, these colorful necklaces with a whimsy flair reminded me of my enchanted garden series of paintings.
